Our Mission & Vision (es)
Aquaponics United (AU) is a non-governmental organization that was created with the aim of promoting and encouraging the use of aquaponic systems as a method of sustainable and efficient agriculture. Our organization believes that aquaponics can provide an alternative to traditional farming practices that are often resource-intensive and harmful to the environment. By combining aquaculture and hydroponics, aquaponics creates a closed system that recirculates water and nutrients, producing both fish and plants in a symbiotic relationship.
Aquaponics United (AU) is committed to improving the quality and accessibility of food while reducing waste and pollution. Our focus is on making aquaponic systems accessible to anyone, regardless of their location or resources. By encouraging the use of recyclable materials and local resources, we hope to create a sustainable food system that benefits both people and the planet.
2021
FAO - A tale of empty plates.
828 million
Between 702 and 828 million of people were affected by hungry.
80% less water
Water is a critical input for agricultural production. Aquaponics is an alternative.
A brief history of aquaponics and its characters.
The history of aquaponics is the history of the scientists and researchers who developed it. Although the benefits of symbiotic cultivation were known since ancient times, it was not until modern times that sustainable and effective techniques and methods were developed to maximize its benefits.
This series of articles is dedicated to those people around the world who have marked a before and after in aquaponics. People we have known and others we will no longer be able to meet.
All of them our gratitude and recognition as they are “the history of aquaponics".
- Aquaponics: Consists of cultivating fish and plants in a symbiotic environment of recirculating waters.
- Sinced: 1970
- 1st Commercial system: 2003
